What do I really need to feel good?
The beginning of a new year has something magical about it: it is that moment when, amidst budgets and reflections, many of us stop to think about what we would like to improve or change. Maybe even the classic list of good intentions is born. But, perhaps the real meaning of this period is not just to make plans, but to take a moment to ask ourselves: ‘What do I really need to be well?’. Not to become someone else, but to rediscover those parts of us that are just waiting to be valued.
Gratitude: small gestures, big changes
How often do we dwell on what we lack? It is an almost natural habit, but in doing so we lose sight of all the beautiful things around us. One gesture that can really make a difference is practising gratitude. In the morning, over coffee, or at night before bed, give yourself a few minutes to think about three beautiful things you have experienced. They can be small things: a smile, an unexpected message, sunshine after days of rain. You will realise that, little by little, you will begin to see the world in a different light and perhaps, in time, yourself too.
Rediscovering your passions: the key to being well
Is there something that used to make your eyes sparkle but that you stopped doing? Perhaps drawing, playing an instrument or simply cooking a new dish. The truth is that, in the daily rush, we often forget how important it is to dedicate time to what we are passionate about.
This year, try brushing up on those activities that used to make you feel alive. No need to overdo it: even just half an hour a week can do wonders. It’s like recharging your batteries, but not only that. When you immerse yourself in something you love, you discover sides of you that you might have put aside. And, let’s face it, a few moments of ‘stop’ every now and then is not a luxury, it is a necessity.
Expressing who we are: also through details
Taking care of ourselves is not just meditation or enlightening reading. Even our appearance can become a way of expressing who we are. It is not about following trends, but about choosing what makes us feel good, what really represents us.
Maybe it’s time to make room in your wardrobe and invest in genny clothing that make you feel comfortable and confident. Not because looks are everything, but because even a detail, like a scarf you love or a dress that enhances you, can give you that extra boost to face the day with a smile.
Change: one step at a time
Change is scary, we all know that. And we often think that big revolutions are needed to do it. The truth, however, is that the most lasting transformations come from small steps. A daily action, however small, can make all the difference. This year try focusing on small goals: read a chapter of a book that inspires you, walk a little more, spend five minutes meditating. It doesn’t sound like much, but that is exactly how you build something solid. It is a bit like putting one brick after another: at first it seems nothing, but in the long run you end up with a strong and stable structure.
A Year for You
The New Year is an invitation to take care of you, inside and out. You don’t need complex plans or endless lists of good intentions. All you need is a little listening, a little kindness towards yourself and the desire to do, even a little at a time, something nice for you.
In the end, isn’t that what a good start is all about?
