Starbucks Local Collection Celebrates Favorite Places to Visit

Fifty cities and states. Fifty unique perspectives. The Starbucks® Local Collection is a celebration of U.S. places – from the palm trees of Waikiki to the shores of Cape Cod.

When designing mugs for Starbucks Local Collection, in-house artists chose locations where they had a heartfelt connection. Each ceramic travel mug celebrates a hometown or favorite place to visit.

Hidden Gems in Dallas

Starbucks designer Jordan Kay grew up loving John Wayne western films, and was inspired by vintage cowboy boots for the Dallas Double Wall Traveler. She elevated the boots to art with quirky patterns and details that include the city’s skyscrapers, blooming azaleas, the Ferris wheel at Fair Park and even tacos. “There are so many hidden references to the city buried amongst these boots,” Kay said. “It’s the mystery and hidden landmarks and different flavors of the city that I find really interesting.”

California Cool

Designer Trista Sydloski-Tesch, who was inspired by friends in California, used softer, pastel tones to capture the atmospheric colors of the coast. The Los Angeles Double Wall Traveler features a closeup of a girl’s face, with mirror lenses in her blue-frame sunglasses, sipping a Starbucks beverage. “It’s a bit of a tongue-in-cheek nod to Cali lifestyle but captured with a fashion approach in the illustration style – it’s an image I can fully relate to,” Sydloski-Tesch said. “The coolest part is I really wanted a special type effect on it mimicking real sunglasses – her aviators reflect palm trees and L.A. signage.”

Along for the Ride

For designer Nina Painter, designing the Seattle Double Wall Traveler was a chance to revisit a childhood memory. “Growing up in Seattle, the ferries have always held a place in my heart. I have such good memories of taking a ferry,” Painter said. “I love standing on the deck with my dog and a warm cup of coffee, of course, and seeing a new view of our city.” Her design features an iconic Washington ferry boat that transports people, cars and even the Painter’s dog, Beau, across the blue water.

Local Ornament Collection
