Nike+ Running App combines the new, innovative Samsung Gear S with Nike’s best in class services for the most connected running experience yet
Seoul, Korea – August 29th, 2014 – Samsung Electronics, in partnership with NIKE, Inc., today introduced the Nike+ Running App for the newly announced Samsung Gear S. The innovative app utilizes the new Samsung Gear S’ built-in Bluetooth and 3G connectivity features to bring Nike’s best in class running experience to Gear users for the first time.
“We are very excited to welcome the Nike+ Running App to Samsung’s Gear portfolio,” said Chan Woo Park, Vice President of Product Strategy Team in Mobile Division at Samsung Electronics. “Samsung Gear S with its ergonomically fit design, empowered by multi-sensors, GPS and IP67, is a perfect health and fitness companion. With the Nike+ Running App, it will be even more attractive and fun for users to enjoy their running, while tracking runs, reaching goals and sharing with friends, all on their wrist.”
With the pre-loaded Nike+ Running App on the Samsung Gear S, users can leave their phones at home and still map runs, track progress and stay motivated while on the move. In the midst of a workout, runners are able to easily view running metrics including distance, pace, heart rate, NikeFuel earned, and time, by simply raising their wrists. The app is also equipped with a built-in music player, allowing runners to select music in a playlist with a quick tap. Meanwhile, the Samsung Gear S’ built-in GPS allows runners to check their routes and speed. In addition, the Nike+ Running App keeps runners inspired by leveraging the Samsung Gear S’ 3G connection to deliver real-time cheers from Facebook friends.
“Nike+ Running has changed the way people experience sports. It motivates runners to run further, faster and more often by tracking their activity, celebrating their progress, enlisting personalized coaching, challenging their friends and sharing runs with their entire social network,” said Adam Roth, Vice President of Nike Global Running Brand Marketing. “The integration with the Samsung Gear S allows more runners to join the Nike+ community and enjoy the benefits of this great service.”
Since its launch in 2006, Nike+ Running has provided runners the chance to track, measure, share and compare their runs with a global community of athletes. The Nike+ Running App uses GPS technology to map runs, provide stats on instantaneous pace and distance, and track users’ progress. It offers fun motivational features like Nike+ Challenges, cheers from friends, photo sharing to social media, live audio feedback and the option to select music. Its Nike+ Coach function offers comprehensive training programs, helping runners to prepare for their races. The Nike+ Running community has logged over 1 billion miles worldwide.
