Mac App Store Drops X
- X (formerly Twitter) has been removed from the Mac App Store, leaving new users unable to download the app.
- Existing users can still access it, but there may be issues with using the iPad version on macOS.
A surprising development, X (formerly Twitter) has been officially removed in The Mac App Store. People searching for “Twitter” or “X” in the platform of Apple will have difficulty finding the app however attempts to visit the URL will now display an error message that states the application is not available. The result is that the new users are no longer able to download X directly via the Mac App Store and will have to use the browser-based version of the platform.
If you already are using the X application installed on their Macs there are some who are using it with no difficulties. But, there are instances of issues when trying to access an iPad application app macOS and it is possible that the existing users may experience difficulties.
The decision to remove the Twitter app was made following Elon Musk’s decision to rebrand Twitter as X by 2023. While the name change was implemented across the majority of platforms however, the Mac application remained the same and was not receiving an update for almost one year. Its absence for a long time has caused numerous users to express their frustration with its performance. The app has been described as unstable and unreliable.
It remains to be seen if X intends to remove all functions on users of the Twitter for Mac application. In the meantime, Mac users will need to use the internet to remain connected to Twitter.
