ING Rises In DJSI, Receives Top Marks For Climate Strategy, Financial inclusion

ING has substantially improved our performance in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) annual review published today by RobecoSAM.

The rating comes in the same month that ING was rated No. 1 out of 395 banks by Sustainalytics, another global leader in sustainability research.

The DJSI named ING among world leaders in the industry category ‘Banks’ and again included ING in the World Index and the Europe Index of this category. The Dow Jones Sustainability World Index tracks the performance of the top 10% of the 2,500 largest companies in the S&P Global Broad Market IndexSM that lead the field in terms of sustainability.

While the industry average score is 61, ING scores 90 out of 100, a 5% increase from ING’s 2015 score of 86. The highest score in the ‘Banks’ category is 95. On climate strategy, environmental reporting and financial inclusion ING received the highest score possible. We also improved our scores in the areas of customer relationship and in the newly introduced category ’information security and cybersecurity’.

Recognition

“We’re proud to be included once again in DJSI’s World Index and Europe Index for Banks,” says ING’s global head of Sustainability Leon Wijnands. “We’re pleased to see our efforts in the areas of customer relationship, financial inclusion and climate are recognised in our improved DJSI rating, also right after receiving our number one position by Sustainalytics. We’re committed to further integrating sustainability into all parts of our company.”

We believe that we have a responsibility as a bank to support the sustainable development of the communities and societies where we operate. Our sustainability efforts focus on two areas: financially empowering our retail customers and supporting sustainable transitions for companies. It is exactly those two areas where DJSI has praised our efforts with the highest possible scores.
