Card Members Will Be Able To Use Their Existing americanexpress.com User ID and Password to Fly Through Checkout Online at: Burberry, Warby Parker, Gap, Old Navy, Banana Republic, Intermix, Hulu, Newegg, The Wall Street Journal, Ticketmaster, Avis Car Rental, Cole Haan, BarkBox, Ledbury, Sabon and 1-800-FLOWERS.COM, as well as at Merchants Using Stripe
American Express (NYSE: AXP) today announced the launch of Amex Express Checkout, a first-ever, fast and secure way for U.S. Card Members to check out quickly at participating online merchants by using their americanexpress.com account login. With Amex Express Checkout, Card Members simply use their existing americanexpress.com User ID and Password, and American Express auto-fills the checkout fields with their American Express® Card details and relevant account information in just a few clicks. Unlike other online payments tools currently in the marketplace, Amex Express Checkout is not a wallet, and does not require a Card Member to create or manage a new account.
Amex Express Checkout is available for Card Members to use online today at BarkBox, Burberry, Ledbury, Newegg, Sabon, Ticketmaster, Warby Parker and The Wall Street Journal. American Express and Stripe are working together to allow merchants using Stripe as a payments platform to easily enable Amex Express Checkout for their customers. And, Amex Express Checkout is expected to be available in the coming months on websites for Avis Car Rental, Banana Republic, Cole Haan, Hulu, Gap, Intermix, Old Navy, POPSUGAR Must Have, Rocketmiles, 1-800-FLOWERS.COM and others.
With Amex Express Checkout, a Card Member’s account information is transferred to the merchant through a token allowing for safer transactions than traditional online checkout. And because American Express auto-fills account information in real-time for every online transaction via Amex Express Checkout, both Card Members and merchants are assured that the Card number and billing details provided are current – eliminating the need to manually update those details, as may be required with an online wallet.
“We know our Card Members and merchants want a simple, fast checkout process to make online shopping easy and delightful,” said Leslie Berland, executive vice president, Digital Partnerships & Development at American Express. “Amex Express Checkout leverages our unique technology to create a checkout experience unlike any other, one that is valuable to merchants and secure for Card Members, giving them peace of mind.”
Card Members that use Amex Express Checkout get all the same Card Member benefits, offers and service that come with their Card Membership.
Here’s How to Fly Through Checkout
For Card Members, Amex Express Checkout is a new way to shop online quickly and securely with the americanexpress.com User ID and Password they already know and use to log in to their account online to pay their bill or to the American Express app.
To shop with Amex Express Checkout, Card Members just enter their existing americanexpress.com account login and choose their Card. American Express securely auto-fills the checkout fields. Card Members can confirm or edit their information on the merchant site before submitting an order.
Starting today, Card Members also will get a one-time $10 statement credit per merchant when they use Amex Express Checkout online at BarkBox, Burberry, Ledbury, Newegg, Sabon, Ticketmaster, Warby Parker and The Wall Street Journal through 9/7/15. Terms apply.
Built for Merchants
For merchant partners, Amex Express Checkout is a powerful commerce solution that can be easily integrated into any stage of their existing customer payment processing journey; it functions on desktop, mobile web or in native app. With Amex Express Checkout, merchant partners get access to the Card account data they need to enable Card Members to quickly and seamlessly check out on their sites – along with embedded security features and customer authentication performed by American Express.
American Express and Stripe are also teaming up to simplify the Amex Express Checkout integration process. In the coming weeks, Stripe, a leading payments platform, is expected to offer a simple process for merchants to integrate Amex Express Checkout in just a few steps.
