BOCHK Takes the Lead in Bringing Apple Pay to BOC Card Customers Offering UnionPay Debit Card Cardholders an easy, secure and private way to pay

Bank Of China

Bank of China (Hong Kong) (“BOCHK”) becomes one of the first banks in Hong Kong to bring Apple Pay to UnionPay Debit Card cardholders, and let BOC Card customers be able to enjoy making fast, convenient and secure payments at UnionPay QuickPass terminals in the Mainland of China and Hong Kong with Apple Pay, as well as in apps or on the web.

Mr Wang Lan, Deputy General Manager of E-Finance Centre of BOCHK, said, “BOCHK places great importance on FinTech development. We share the same vision with our partners, and have been working meticulously with them to strengthen our efforts on innovation of digital solutions, products and services for FinTech development. Today, we are very pleased to be one of the first banks in Hong Kong to bring Apple Pay to UnionPay Debit Card cardholders. Our BOC Card customers are now able to enjoy a more convenient and secure way to make purchases, transforming the way they pay every day. We will continue to enhance digital payment services through the deployment of breakthrough contactless payment technology like Apple Pay, bringing faster and more convenient financial services to our customers.”

Security and privacy are at the core of Apple Pay. When customers use BOC Card with Apple Pay, the actual card numbers are not stored on the device, nor on Apple servers. Instead, a unique Device Account Number is assigned, encrypted and securely stored in the Secure Element on your device. Each transaction is authorised with a one-time unique dynamic security code.

Apple Pay is easy to set up and users will continue to receive all of the rewards and benefits offered by BOC Card. In stores, Apple Pay works with iPhone SE, iPhone 6 and later, and Apple Watch.

Online shopping in apps and on websites accepting Apple Pay is as simple as the touch of a finger with Touch ID, so there is no need to manually fill out lengthy account forms or repeatedly type in shipping and billing information. When paying for goods and services on the go in apps or Safari, Apple Pay works with iPhone SE, iPhone 6 and later, iPad Pro, iPad (5th generation), iPad Air 2, and iPad mini 3 and later. You can also use Apple Pay in Safari on any Mac introduced in or after 2012 running macOS Sierra and confirm the payment with iPhone 6 or later or Apple Watch, or with Touch ID on the new MacBook Pro.
