Air France Partners with Starlink for Free In-Flight Wi-Fi

Air France
  • Air France will offer free ultra-high-speed Wi-Fi powered by Starlink on all flights beginning in the summer of 2025, boosting the passenger experience.
  • Passengers can connect numerous devices to enjoy streaming, gaming, and chatting, but they must first sign up for the Flying Blue reward program.
  • A free “Message Pass” will be offered for Flying Blue members throughout the changeover to Starlink, in addition to paid Wi-Fi choices for non-members.

Air France passengers may expect a game-changing flying experience after the airline announced a deal with Elon Musk’s Starlink to provide ultra-fast Wi-Fi on its flights. Beginning in the summer of 2025, the airline will roll out this new service, allowing passengers to stay connected with a seamless, “ground-like” internet experience while flying at 30,000 feet.

What Does This Mean For Air France Passengers?

With Starlink technology, Air France will provide free internet access in all cabins, from Economy to La Première First Class. This is part of the airline’s attempts to raise its premium offerings and improve the passenger experience using cutting-edge technology.

Starlink’s satellite-based service will allow passengers to stream TV shows, movies, and video games, as well as communicate with friends and family, all while connecting numerous devices at the same time. Onboard Wi-Fi will be available on smartphones, tablets, and laptops, allowing for high-speed, low-latency internet access during the flight, including over remote locations such as oceans or isolated regions.

How to Use Starlink Wi-Fi on Air France

To take advantage of this free service, passengers must first join the airline’s Flying Blue loyalty program. Existing members will be able to log in and use the high-speed connectivity. Those who do not already have an account can create one easily and for free, either on board or before departure.

However, La Première First Class customers will not be required to join Flying Blue and will have automatic access to the Wi-Fi service, regardless of their membership status.

Transition Period for Message Pass and Paid Wi-Fi Options

Air France has stated that during the transition to Starlink, passengers aboard planes that have not yet been fitted with the new technology would continue to have Wi-Fi. Flying Blue members can use a free “Message Pass,” which allows them to send messages while flying. For individuals who require more connectivity, a paid Wi-Fi service will be provided.

Starlink Is Revolutionising In-Flight Connectivity

Air France is joining a growing number of airlines that have joined with Starlink to provide high-speed internet in the skies. This includes major airlines such as United Airlines and Delta Airlines, which are introducing Starlink on their flights. Hawaiian Airlines was the first to launch the service, and other airlines such as Qatar Airways, Air New Zealand, and airBaltic are in the process of integrating Starlink into their fleets.

Starlink’s satellite network, powered by SpaceX, consists of hundreds of low-Earth orbit satellites that provide broadband-quality, low-latency internet around the world. This is especially useful for in-flight Wi-Fi, where establishing consistent access over oceans and distant places has been difficult.

Looking Ahead

By implementing Starlink, Air France is putting itself at the forefront of in-flight connectivity innovation, making it easier than ever for passengers to have the same internet experience in the air as they do on the ground. The move to a fleet-wide rollout will take several years, but Air France is dedicated to improving the onboard experience and providing customers with uninterrupted high-speed internet access by 2025.

Whether flying short- or long-haul, passengers can expect to easily browse the web, stay up to date on global news, and stream video. With Starlink, Air France is poised to provide all of its passengers with one of the greatest in-flight Wi-Fi services in the business, free of charge.
