Adopting Effective Study Habits for Physiology to Ace Your Grades and Develop Your Nursing Career

Adopting Effective Study Habits for Physiology to Ace Your Grades and Develop Your Nursing Career

Being in nursing school embodies real-life experience in a healthcare setting, but you get knowledge in a learning institution this time. One of the subjects you will cover is physiology. Part of your requirements when you register as a nurse will be implementing anatomical and physiological knowledge in real-life situations.

As is expected, studying the two subjects can be challenging, particularly if you don’t plan your time and resources well. Below are study tips for anatomy and physiology to earn good grades and secure your license.

1. Create an appropriate study method

Assuming you already know what the subjects involve, the earlier you internalize the coursework, the better you will understand them. Physiology and anatomy involve learning body organ structures and how they work together to perform their functions. Here is a good example; the heart relies on arteries to transport blood to other organs and tissues.

The two subjects mostly rely on images to give you a pictorial view of the organs, tissues, and cells. Since your teacher will offer additional information, it will be best to ensure you attend your lectures and submit your assignments in good time. If you need further help, you can try Lecturio nursing courses to get a better grasp on the subject.

2. Simplify the information you are learning in your own words

Whether you comprehend terminologies better by jotting them down on paper or typing on a personal computer, ensuring you simplify what you have studied through your words can help you recall what you have learned better. While some terms are not easy to simplify, find a good formula that can assist you in absorbing information better.

3. Normalize including what you have learned in your everyday conversations

The beauty of physiological and anatomical topics is that it applies within you, so it is harmless to incorporate what you have learned in your daily conversations. For example, if you are on a lunch break and plan to eat fruits before your main meal, you can picture how your cells will respond to the nutrients they utilize from the fruits, rich in vitamins. You can tell your friends how your cells work behind the scenes to heal a minor bruise you recently had.

4. Tailor your study habits as per your exam patterns

The temptation to incorporate various study habits like flashcards, group discussions, or immersing yourself in bookwork can be inevitable. But what good will all those methods do if there are tons of information to digest yet your time is limited?

The only way to hack anatomy and physiology is by tailoring your studies according to the exam requirements. If it encourages the use of flashcards, go ahead with it.  As the time to sit your exam approaches, you will digest relevant information to help you achieve better grades.

5. Take advantage of memorizing devices or systems

Imagine yourself in a situation where you have limited time to study, yet there are tons of terminologies to digest. Mnemonic tools can help you remember important information without breaking a sweat. You can separate the terms into acronyms for better memorization. Also, you can create abbreviations to simplify your understanding.

6. Divide information into subsets

Physiology encompasses massive volumes of information, but you can chunk them into subsets. Chunking or breaking apart information works by identifying topics, then dividing them into patterns.  This signals your brain to establish the relationship between terms and forms.

You can start by grouping vocabulary words together. Please focus on how a term sounds or the number of letters it has. List down the words in your handwriting, including the grouped patterns.

Take a back seat and try to remember every terminology in the group without referring to your notes. When choosing this study habit, you will notice how easy it is to master nursing ethics, organ systems, and healthcare terminologies.

Physiology and anatomy can be overwhelming subjects to take in, but you can still navigate nursing school with good learning habits. Don’t hesitate to use it to your full potential once you find a method that matches your learning habits.

Whether you are new to nursing school or looking to further your education, relying on these verified study tips and techniques can help you pass your exams and make you a competent nurse.
