50 Years on, Nike Reinvents a Classic for Manchester City’s 2017-18 Home Kit

Over the course of the past decade, Manchester City have consistently challenged the status quo, pushing for excellence at every level. A brand new training facility, significant investment in Manchester City Women’s team and a world-class Academy system has reaped rewards and the results speak for themselves: Five major honours since 2011 for the men’s team, a treble for Manchester City Women’s team and three consecutive F.A. Youth Cup finals.

In pursuit of further success in 2017-18, Manchester City will wear the new Nike Vapor kit featuring Aeroswift technology and classic detailing.

The traditional City blue shirt has been updated to feature a modern round-neck with a white trim. This detail, along with the maroon band on the socks, evokes the club’s 1967-68 kit worn triumphantly by the likes of club legends Mike Summerbee, Colin Bell and Franny Lee.

Throughout the kit, Nike innovation enhances performance. The shirt’s engineered knit zones create a subtle geometric pattern that enhances fit. The sides of the kit feature a white stripe that runs the length of the shirt and shorts. Expanding when the player is in motion, the stripe maximizes ventilation. Finally, the City blue socks incorporate Nike Grip technology for the ultimate foot-to-boot connection.

From the current crop of players, to the Premier League winning team of 2012, all the way back to the team that secured the First Division with a 4-3 win in 1968, Manchester City’s DNA is rooted in football designed to entertain their loyal fans.

Looking ahead to the 2017-18 season, this influence is still present no matter how much the game of football has evolved.

Leroy Sané, who has completed his first season with the club, says, “I’ve loved my first season with City. We work hard to play fast, exciting and attacking football and we’re looking forward to creating winning moments for our fans”.

Phil Foden, part of City’s Elite Development Squad and the third youngest player to represent City’s first team in a competitive match, added“I’ve grown up in Manchester and with City, so I’ve seen how the club develops talent at all levels. All of us can see the standards the first team set and that’s what pushes us”.
